Annotation: This article examines the problem of professional self-determination for students in general education organizations in the context of a changing labor market and the ineffectiveness of traditional career guidance methods. The author substantiates the need to move from traditional, often formal career guidance practices to the purposeful development of an active, meaningful, and responsible position in adolescents as agents of their own professional future. Engagement, which fosters intrinsic motivation and personal interest, is considered a key mechanism for solving this problem. This theoretical analysis examines approaches to engagement, which is the focus of research in such disciplines as economics, sociology, psychology, and pedagogy. The concepts of "engagement" and "involvement" in the context of professional self-determination are clarified. The main result of the study is the development of pedagogical conditions aimed at increasing engagement: creating practice-oriented and reflective situations of choice; organizing interaction with the professional community; and focusing teachers' activities on student engagement using comprehensive diagnostics. The practical significance of this study lies in the potential application of the proposed framework to improve the effectiveness of career guidance in general education institutions, thereby preparing students for informed career development in the modern world.
