- Annotation: The article presents the results of a comparative study of emotional intelligence (EI) and stress resistance among students at a medical university (SSMU, n = 118) and a classical university (SSU, Institute of Physics, n = 53). The study employed the following methods: the Stress Resistance Self‑Assessment Test (by S. Cohen and G. Williamson) and the Emotional Intelligence Test by N. Hall. Data analysis was performed in R: correlation coefficients were calculated using Spearman’s rank correlation, and the significance of differences between samples was assessed using permutation ANOVA with the lmPerm package. It was found that students’ stress resistance is influenced by such components of emotional intelligence as emotional awareness and empathy. Differences in the studied characteristics between the samples divided by university type (classical vs. medical) were not statistically significant. It is proposed to integrate training sessions aimed at developing emotional awareness and participation in socially significant initiatives into the educational process for all students, regardless of their field of study, since this affects the level of empathy among graduates.
