- Annotation: The article considers the problem of developing intercultural communicative competence of foreign military personnel in the process of teaching them Russian. Particular attention is paid to the role of extracurricular activities, in particular, the organization and holding of the ‟Russian Language Festival” as an effective means of developing this competence. The goals, objectives, stages of the extracurricular event, its structure are described; the content and objectives of each Festival competition, as well as their potential in developing intercultural communicative competence of foreign cadets, are disclosed. The importance of integrating linguistic and cultural aspects in the process of drawing up competition tasks is emphasized, which contributes to the formation of a tolerant attitude towards Russian culture in foreign military personnel and increases motivation to study the Russian language. The article concludes with the results of a survey conducted following the Festival, confirming the positive impact of this form of extracurricular activity on the formation of intercultural communicative competence in accordance with the structure presented in the article: The Festival motivates to study Russian culture, promotes the development of empathy and tolerance in the process of interpersonal interaction, increases knowledge in the field of Russian language and Russian culture, and develops the communication skills of foreign cadets.
