- Annotation: The article examines the problem of risk factors for the emergence and development of internet addiction among students at a physical education university. The study presents results on the severity of internet addiction and its main components among students in the context of socio-psychological adaptation issues in individuals with a sports and physical education focus. The sample consisted of 74 university students who engage in regular sports activities and have consistent competitive practice. The study employed Chen's Internet Addiction Scale, the Computer Addiction Assessment Scale by A.R. Drozdikova-Zaripova and A.R. Shakurova, and the Social-Psychological Adaptation Scale by C. Rogers and R. Diamond. The findings revealed that internet addiction is generally not characteristic of physical education university students; however, every third respondent shows risk factors for developing internet dependency according to specific indicators. A risk group of students was identified based on individual Chen scale measures. A hierarchy of internet addiction components was established, with students showing a predominant social component reflecting the need to stay connected. The study revealed a favorable pattern of socio-psychological adaptation among respondents, with only a small group of students showing maladaptation indicators on individual scales. According to correlation analysis results, risk factors for internet addiction development among student-athletes include emotional discomfort, externality, escapism, susceptibility to influence, and degree of self-acceptance. Prevention of internet addiction development and adaptation disorders among students should be integrated into the university's educational activity programs.
