- Annotation: The article examines the differences in perception and coping strategies of women with short-term and long-term forced separation in romantic relationships. It is shown that the duration of separation determines the cognitive assessment of the situation, the emotional state and the choice of coping strategies. The study involved 184 women aged 18 to 42 years who are in a situation of separation from a romantic partner. The participants were divided into two groups: 118 women with long–term separation and 66 with short-term separation. Method. The study was conducted in a nomothetic approach using methods for studying cognitive assessment, emotional state, coping behavior, and relationship satisfaction. It has been established that, regardless of the duration and predictability, separation is perceived by women as a forced situation. Short-term separation is less stressful and more manageable, which helps to cope with emotional stress. Long-term separation causes deep negative feelings, high levels of anxiety and stress due to the uncertainty of its outcome. Women in short-term separation use strategies of denial and devaluation of the situation, whereas in long-term separation they use complex strategies such as emotional reaction and turning to religion, which indicates the need for deep reflection and acceptance of the situation. The results highlight the importance of taking into account the time characteristics of separation and the individual characteristics of women to develop support programs.
