Annotation: This article deals with the problem of introducing innovative computer technologies (artificial intelligence) in teaching a foreign language (Russian as a foreign language). Although the use of artificial intelligence in foreign language teaching is currently being actively discussed in the methodological community, some aspects require multilateral consideration and further reflection. The relevance of the problem is determined by the need to optimise the process of forming foreign language communicative competence with the use of high-tech learning tools. The wide spread of innovative technologies innovative technologies, which have a number of advantages (high speed of data processing, provision of information in any format, cost-effectiveness, etc.) makes methodologists look for ways to integrate them into the educational environment. The article systematises and clarifies the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in Russian as a foreign language classes on the basis of scientific literature. The areas of application of artificial intelligence tools as a means of teaching different aspects of the learnt language and types of speech activity are described. The authors prove that artificial intelligence has wide prospects for managing the learning process, improving teaching methods and techniques and increasing the efficiency of learning a foreign language.
