- Annotation: In the context of a constant increase in the urban population in recent decades, the growth of the number of megacities and the popularization of the urban lifestyle, as well as in the context of the formation of an “educational societyˮ where every aspect of the environment has educational potential, more and more attention is paid to the issues of using urban space as a means of learning. The city as a pedagogical tool offers unique opportunities for learning through experience, interaction and research. Thus, a new paradigm of learning is formed, where urban objects are actively involved in the educational process, creating new forms of interaction between educational institutions and society as a whole. This article considers the pedagogical potential of such a megalopolis as St. Petersburg in studying mathematics using the example of the topic “Derivativeˮ. Having analyzed practical problems on the topic “Derivativeˮ by various textbook authors, a list of problems was compiled, and then similar problems were proposed for the objects of St. Petersburg. Thus, it was shown how the objects of the megalopolis can help to study mathematics with interest and see its application in the environment.
- Keywords: city, metropolis, city objects, mathematics, Saint Petersburg, derivative.
