Annotation: The article is an overview of the round table held at the Altai State University on May 20, 2024, at the Department of Theory and Practice of Journalism; the participants of the round table were teachers of the department. The problem field was socio-cultural, psychological and pedagogical consequences of functional-instrumental and value-orientation transformations of mass media in the context of their adaptation to the realities of the hypermodern situation. The research methodology consisted of a structural-functional approach and elements of a cultural-historical approach, a critical analysis of technical and economic determinism, axiological, discursive, linguocultural analysis. The authors recorded a number of indicative and often contradictory trends in the media sphere: total dominance of the market model and commodification of media products; hyperconsumption and neo-hedonistic attitudes of the audience; the hegemony of audiovisuality and an exorbitant amount of information giving rise to hypercompetition; gamification of media content; transformation of forms and methods of information presentation (transmedia storytelling, interactive digital narrative, strategy of collapsing content into a series of symbols and signs, desemiotization, etc.). It is noted that the trend of technologization of content production and delivery is increasing, especially with the development and use of artificial intelligence systems, and a number of related problems are noted; the example of changes in domestic legislation concerning the media shows the increasing complexity of legal regulation of the digital media sphere.
