- Annotation: The relevance of teaching English-language dialogical speech to students of humanities in the paradigm of modern linguodidactics is determined by the need to use new methods that contribute to a deeper and more conscious understanding of the English language in the field of mass media. In this article, firstly, the component composition of communicative competence is studied, the concept of dialogical speech, discourse, political discourse, and the effectiveness of using one of the discourse strategies ‟hedging” for the formation of dialogical speech skills of students of humanities in the context of political discourse is considered. The article analyzes the literature on the topic of ‟hedging” in political discourse, as well as an analysis of the corpus of authentic interviews with representatives of Anglo-American political circles. The article presents a methodology for teaching English-language dialogical speech using the discourse strategy ‟hedging” in the framework of political discourse. The methodology is based on sets of exercises by domestic scientists. The results of the study can be used by English teachers to develop more effective methods of teaching dialogical speech and improving the level of students' communicative competence in the context of political discourse.
